LCA:
The Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) offers an alternative to the traditional, exam-focused Leaving Certificate Established. LCA emphasises the development of practical, real-life skills, encouraging students to grow personally and gain meaningful learning experiences. Students who successfully complete the LCA programme can continue their educational journey through PLCs (Post Leaving Certificate courses) and many progress to third-level if they choose. At Ellenfield Community College, the LCA programme blends classroom based learning with a variety of enriching opportunities, such as:
- College open days.
- Career guest speakers from many fields, e.g. airport staff, electricians, personal trainers and more.
- Overnight trip to Carlingford.
- Work experience blocks (2 separate two week blocks in 5th Year and 1 two week block in 6th Year).
- Interview and CV workshops.
- Organising a school tuck shop.
- Guest speakers on important topics such as gambling awareness, drug awareness, and safe driving.
- Driver’s Ed workshop.
- Volunteering at a local nursing home.
