

Junior Cycle
In 2014, the new Junior Cycle was introduced into Irish schools on a phased basis alongside the existing Junior Certificate. It features revised subjects and short courses and a stronger focus on Literacy, Numeracy, Wellbeing and developing Key Skills. In keeping with the new Junior Cycle, many subjects now have a new subject specification and students are completing Classroom Based Assessments (CBA’s) and Assessment Tasks whilst also encompassing a range of other essential learning experiences. From 2020 onwards all subjects are under the new Junior Cycle.

CBAs - Classroom Based Assessments:
During second and third year, students complete a Classroom-Based Assessment in each of their subjects. In addition to Classroom-Based Assessments, students complete State Examinations at the end of their three year Junior Cycle and receive a Junior Cycle Profile of Achievement.
