JCSP:
The Junior Certificate Schools Programme runs alongside the Junior Cycle for our 1st – 3rd years, and we’re extremely lucky to have it in Ellenfield CC. The JCSP enriches our learner experience in a variety of ways, including additional funding for trips and workshops, our own JCSP library and a full time librarian, awards for participation and improvement. Some examples of what our JCSP programme can offer include:
- Awards ceremonies at Christmas and summer.
- Reading targets and competitions with our librarian, Sarah!
- Writer’s Club.
- Trips to Dublin Zoo, Kilmainham Gaol, and Leisureplex in 2024/25, all funded by JCSP.
- Workshops, such as a blacksmith, songwriting, and poetry with a writer-in-residence in 2024/25.
- Supplies for students.
- Competitions such as WRaPParound, Word Millionaire, Fighting Words and more!
- A Christmas celebration for our 1st Years every year, where parents are invited in for awards and to see the enormous progress by our students since joining in August.
- A summer celebration for our 3rd Years every year to celebrate their achievements whilst being in the Junior portion of the school.
The JCSP also provides the school extra benefits such as additional teacher hours and access to inter-school competitions. The aim of Junior Certificate Irish is to develop students' ability to communicate through the Irish language. Irish language skills are improved in a number of areas: spoken language, listening skills, written skills, and reading skills. Reading skills and comprehension skills are developed through reading passages, poems and stories written in Irish. Written skills are developed through writing letters, postcards, essays and stories in Irish.
